Strafford County Conservation District – Dover and Brentwood NH


Position Title: Conservation Intern

Start and end date: May to September, dates are flexible

Hours and Pay: 40 hours per week, $14 per hour

The Strafford County Conservation District is seeking an intern to work in Strafford and Rockingham Counties on several conservation projects this summer. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic, passionate about conservation, can work independently, and enjoys variety. Must be able to work in difficult conditions including high temperatures, exposure to ticks, poison ivy, dense brush, and carrying a 30 lb backpack. Must have your own car (mileage expenses will be reimbursed).


Job tasks will include:

  • Monitoring (inspecting) conservation easements on farmland, forests and wetlands
  • Controlling invasive plants with low-impact herbicide
  • Habitat restoration work including brush cutting and planting
  • Digitally archiving historic aerial imagery
  • Organizing historic photos and files


On-the-job training will be provided, but previous knowledge of plant ID and the ability to interpret maps is helpful. Depending on the interests and skills of the successful candidate, additional job tasks could include: GIS mapping, operating/ assisting farmers with farm equipment, event planning, soil and water testing, crop data collection, grant writing, developing educational materials, website updates and social media.
